Mr. Hirji is Elmwood’s Head of London Office, also serving as the Firm’s Head of European Credit and Portfolio Manager. He is responsible for overseeing the investment, risk management and operational infrastructure for the Firm’s European CLO business and serves as the lead portfolio manager for Elmwood’s European CLO vehicles.
Mr. Hirji has 26 years of credit, portfolio management and trading experience across high yield bonds and leveraged loans in both long-only and total return strategies.
Prior to Elmwood, he served BlackRock for 10 years as Head of European CLOs and Leveraged Loans and as a senior portfolio manager in the Global Fixed Income team, where he focused primarily on the European syndicated leveraged loan asset class and related products, including managed CLOs. Mr. Hirji established BlackRock’s European CLO and leveraged loan businesses and built the franchise to >€8bn of AUM across CLO and loan strategies during his tenure.
Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Hirji was a partner and portfolio manager at New Amsterdam Capital Management LLP, a European credit manager focused on leveraged credit. He was responsible for managing CLO securitisation transactions, leveraged loan and high yield bond funds, and managing accounts. Mr. Hirji began his career at JP Morgan in 1999, working in leveraged finance origination, debt capital markets and financial sponsor coverage.
Mr. Hirji earned a BSc degree, with honours, in Economics from the University of Bristol in 1999.
